This is the personal homepage of Jim Slaughter. There are many Jim Slaughters on the Internet, so I should clarify that I am an attorney with the law firm of Slaughter & Slaughter, LLP, located in Newport Beach, California. I am not famous enough to merit a wikipedia page but this is my poor substitute for one.
Slaughter & Slaughter, LLP has been in existence since around 1990. Our practice is primarily business oriented. We act as corporate general counsel service for small and medium sized businesses. We do some real estate work, and we provide tax and estate planning services, which includes things like wills and trusts. We try to provide good value for our clients.
I grew up in the Coachella Valley. I lived the early portion of my life in Palm Springs and then moved with my parents closer to Indio, where my Dad became a judge. He as such a good judge that the named an American Inn of Court after him. My mother did not get any Inns of Court named after her but she should have. She was (and still is) a fantastic mother. My father died in 2007.
My parents had four children. I am the youngest of the four. My siblings are all hanging in there and loving life. They are the best brother and sisters I could ever ask for.
I went to high school at Indio High School in Indio, California. Students and graduates of Indio High are known as "Rajahs" because that is our mascot. I still stay in touch with some of my great friends from IHS, notably Tom O'Brien and Ray Chaudoin. These are lifelong friends of mine.
I went to college at Santa Clara University, where I was a member of the crew team. We had a wildman coach named John Hawkins who really got us to row hard. I got a degree in finance, and actually won an award called the Finance Medal which is given to the graduating finance major with the highest GPA. Still not sure how I accomplished that. Maybe it was a year in Spain. In addition to all "A"s I really learned how to speak Spanish in Madrid. I lived in a Spanish dorm with students from the University of Madrid. My roommate was a fellow named Greg Stroud who ended up being a big honcho for Sun Microsystems when it was just starting out. We really had fun over there in Spain. I highly recommend study abroad to any college student who will listen to me.
After college I went to law school at Boston University. In addition to having a very good law school, BU had a fantastic hockey team. We went to all the games. When I say "we" I mean my roommate Tom Shymanski, and my friends Kevin Kennedy and Tony Pastor. We hardly ever missed a hockey game. To this day, Tom sends out emails about the college hockey season to a group of hockey aficionados.
Today I live in Irvine, California, currently thought to be the safest big city in California. True enough if you are a human, but small white dogs like these are at great risk of getting eaten. But I digress. I am married to the fabulous Catherine, and we have a wonderful daughter whose name will be withheld for now. She really is a wonderful daughter and person.
I practice law at the above-mentioned law firm with my brother Don. We have worked together for a very long time. People often ask how we get along, and I have to say we get along incredibly well. He is super smart and a great lawyer. There are a lot of so-so lawyers out there but Don is not one of them.

I love technology and computers. I feel very fortunate to have lived in a time when computers and the Internet are around. I feel we have lived through one of the most exciting times in the history of the world. I love to cook and experiment with food and exotic cuisines. I roast my own coffee. I walk the dogs when I have time. Once in a while I go skiing. Mostly I work and hang out with my family. I feel very lucky.
I am almost famous on the Internet for claiming to make the world's best Irish Coffee. If you Google the term "world's best Irish Coffee" you will find me at the top. That is probably mostly due to the fact that I posted the recipe (if you can call it that) many years ago and it has acquired a patina of importance with age, at least as far as our friends at Google are concerned. As far as I can tell that is about all that matters on the Internet.
As I finish writing this page I am more convinced than ever that I do not merit a page on wikipedia. But at least my URL jimslaughter.net has something on it now. It has sat empty for years, so now I've at least put some content here. If you would like to get in touch with me, you can send me email at js@slaughterlaw.com
